A Well Needed Introduction

TheSoundCrate went through some changes, and at the bottom of this post is the introduction to what it was when it first started.
~

Mannan Ahmed had always been interested in music.  However, it wasn’t until he first experienced the “Clint Eastwood” music video by the Gorillaz on MuchMusic at the age of ten that he seriously considered a future in this field.  With the exception of a few stints as a trumpet player in his high school band,  some would say Mannan was a self-taught musical prodigy. Dabbling from day one, he immediately learned to play a variety of instruments ranging from the guitar to the piano with ease.  With a few years of practice under his belt, at the age of seventeen he teamed up with long-time pal Moiez Babar to form TheSoundCrate, an unofficial company dedicated to digitally remixing and re-mastering music.  Beginning as just a small partnership, Mannan and Moiez built up their prestige and the popularity of TheSoundCrate by entering and winning the K-OS remix contest sponsored by Indabamusic.  Their much-acclaimed versions of the K-OS hits “4-3-2-1” and “Burning Bridges” were featured on the latest K-OS CD, and ultimately launched the duo into the professional music industry.

Following their success, Mannan was featured in a variety of local and mainstream media outlets, including YouThink magazine and UBC’s hit radio show Hot Mess.  In lieu of such growing stardom, he branched out into the world of deejaying, creating and performing remixes of popular songs, as well as featuring his own compositions at gigs(much to the delight of his growing fan base).

Mannan has since ventured out on his own in pursuit of individual success, while still maintaining control of the major aspects of TheSoundCrate.  Taking an interest in absolutely any genre of music, from trance to classical, Mannan continues to compose, mix, and record music.

“TheSoundCrate is a music production duo based in Surrey, British Columbia, located fairly close to Vancouver. We have been producing music (not professionally) for about 5 years now. Both Muslim, we are ready to give ourselves some broader exposure now. If there are any artists out there that would like to be supplied with instrumentals, or are local talent(s) that would like to record, please send a message to: thesoundcrate@gmail.com . We listen to everything from Beethoven to Dragon Force; from Radiohead to Lupe Fiasco. “Every genre of music has something to give.” Personally, we don’t really know how to classify our music because it has been influenced by so many genres and groups. We are quickly learning the ways of the music industry, producing music, re/mixing, and DJ-ing.”
